Reuters ahead with EPA carbon dioxide emission findings

Reuters beat Bloomberg by 8 minutes on April 17 in reporting the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s findings that carbon dioxide emissions were a danger to human health — a label that could pave the way to heavy regulation. Reuters reported earlier in the day, as did other news organizations, that an EPA decision was expected. While other news organizations waited for an email of the EPA press release, Reuters reporters pressed their environmental sources for information and found the EPA findings buried in a rarely-viewed page of the agency’s website, way before the EPA sent out its official release. The story was important to energy subscribers, because the agency`s decision could lead to EPA regulation of CO2 emissions emitted by coal-fired power plants and oil refineries if Congress doesn’t pass legislation to curb emissions.
