Reuters alone with GM CEO's comments on first-quarter performance

Reuters was alone on April 12 with GM Chief Executive Ed Whitacre’s forecast of solid operating results for the first quarter and likely profitability in 2010. Whitacre provided the first indications of GM`s first-quarter financial results, scheduled to be released in mid-May, in a memo to staff that was obtained by Reuters. The story received wide play by scores of news organizations, including USA Today, ABC and CNBC, and was the most-read story on industry journal Automotive News. It remains unmatched by rivals.
