Reuters was first on May 13 with news that that British regulators had approved in principle Prudential Plc’s $35.5 billion acquisition of AIG’s Asian insurance business, and that a $21 billion rights issue could be priced within days. Prudential’s shares fell by 0.8 percent as investors digested news that the highly dilutive rights issue was back on track. Reuters’ story was unmatched by Bloomberg and cited on the FT’’s Alphaville blog. Dow Jones reported that Pru was forging ahead with the rights issue and likely to publish the terms within days around 12 hours later.
