First with draft of Afghan peace plan.
05.09.2010
On May 9 Reuters got hold of an exclusive draft copy of Afghan President Hamid Karzais peace plan that was being circulated among diplomats in Kabul. The draft envisages offering Taliban leaders exile overseas as well as the militant group cutting ties with al Qaeda and joining the political mainstream. The proposals came just a few weeks before a grand council of Afghans, known as a jirga, where efforts to end the U.S.-led nine-year-old war will quicken. AP reported on the draft plan a full day after Reuters exclusive. The Reuters report was picked up widely online, including on the Washington Post`s website, and it was cited in media ranging from Voice of America to the UK Independent and the Montreal Gazette.
