Yuan outlook in FX chatroom
05.07.2010
Five economists and strategists across Asia-Pacific sat down at a virtual roundtable with Reuters China experts on May 7 to discuss one of the hottest topics in the market – prospects for a policy shift on the yuan. Senior journalists and respected market players gave clients first-hand insight and drove a vibrant discussion, which showed how chatrooms can generate news later pulled together in a story. On a busy day when the euro zone crisis was pummeling markets, the analysts — from RBS, BNP Paribas, OCBC, Westpac and CIMB Investment Bank — mostly agreed that the European debt troubles likely meant that China would take more time before allowing yuan appreciation. So far that has proven correct.
