Reuters scores insightful interview with Nigeria's Central Bank governor

Reuters published a ground-breaking interview on June 11 with Nigerian Central Bank Governor Lamido Sanusi while he was on a visit to France. Paris correspondent John Irish talked to Sanusi to obtain exclusive insight into Nigeria’s reserves policy, Sanusi’s readiness to defend the naira, his view of inflation risks, and progress with bank reforms. Sanusi suggested Nigeria might shift a small portion of its forex reserves into the Chinese yuan, a move that could have long-term implications for the international use of the Chinese currency if other developing nations follow suit. He also squelched market speculation that Nigeria might start to let the naira depreciate, and allayed concern — for now at least — that some of Nigeria’s rescued banks would be left without investors.
