Reuters gets exclusive interview with Mexico climate talks host
11.10.2010
With just weeks to go before important U.N. climate talks start in Cancun, co-host Patricia Espinosa, Mexicos foreign minister, gave Reuters exclusively on Nov. 10 her expectations for what many predict will be another disappointing round of meetings. Espinosa indicated there was little hope for agreeing a long-term, legally binding greenhouse gas curbing deal and that the 194 nations should instead focus on more concrete, immediate actions such as setting up a Green Fund or risk U.N. climate change mitigation effort’s losing credibility all together. Her comments were seen as targeted at the United States and China, the worlds two biggest CO2 emitters, which did not sign the Kyoto Protocol, and stand in the way of further action on greenhouse gases.
