Shares of some Canadian potash companies fall after Reuters analysis points to risks

Reuters gave clients an exclusive analysis on the potash industry, which showed that few, if any, of the remaining Canadian potash juniors will attract the kind of takeover bids that rivals such as Potash One and Athabasca Potash received earlier this year. After the report was published on Dec 13, shares of Amazon Mining fell 3.2 percent, shares of Encato Potash fell 7.9 percent, IC Potash fell 5.3 percent, Passport Potash fell 4.1 percent and Allana Potash fell 2.9 percent. The Reuters analysis pointed out that only an exploration company with a well-advanced project - like that of Western Potash - was likely to attract a takeover bid, and the prospects for others looked bleak. Shares of Western Potash ended the day up 2 percent, after rising as much as 3.9 percent.
