Reuters alone in reporting partnership talks between Starbucks and Green Mountain
02.14.2011
Reuters exclusively reported on Feb 14 that Starbucks and Green Mountain are in negotiations about a partnership, news that sent Green Mountain shares up more than 13 percent to hit a lifetime high. Starbucks has been looking for growth beyond its namesake cafes, and wants to be a big player in the fast-growing single-serve coffee brewing market in the U.S. currently dominated by Green Mountains Keurig brewer. Wall Street has predicted a tie-up between the two companies since Starbucks announced plans to scrap a partnership with Kraft. Media outlets including Dow Jones, TheStreet.com and Investors Business Daily picked up the story and gave Reuters credit. The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg did not report the news. Reuters also reported that Starbucks intends to do deals with multiple partners in this space, a plan that was confirmed the next day when it announced a partnership with Courtesy Products CV1 one-cup brewers.
