Reuters first into eastern Libya after rebels overthrow Gaddafi’s rule
03.03.2011
Reuters correspondents were first into eastern Libya once the border guards stopped blocking the foreign media. Our reporter at the frontline of the revolt provided excellent colour coverage from along the bandit-infested road to Tobruk and then to Benghazi - very much unknown territory at that early stage. We were able to deliver a gripping narrative, as well as political assessments on the revolt’s significance and material on the military campaign. We were also among the first foreign journalists to reach Tripoli once the authorities decided to allow in the media. Our reporting from the eastern front and from the Tripoli theatre has been consistently cited by the BBC, Sky, the Financial Times and others. Bloomberg, by contrast, seems not to be in Libya.
