Reuters first with Lamborghini`s new `everyday` model launch
05.23.2011
Reuters exclusively reported that Italian luxury
sports car maker and Volkswagen unit Lamborghini
will launch a new everyday model. CEO Stephan
Winkelmann announced the new model at the
Reuters Global Luxury and Fashion Summit in Paris.
The story was picked up widely by the media and
analysts, with highly-respected auto analysts IHS
Global Insight dissecting the implications for
Lamborghini, its parent, Europe`s largest car maker
Volkswagen and its investors in a note dedicated to
the subject. IHS said the news probably meant
Lamborghini would be moving into production of the
Estoque concept car it presented in 2008, which
could have more of an impact on competitors
making high-performance sedans like BMW, Audi or
Mercedes, than on direct competitors including
Ferrari and Aston Martin. A Morgan Stanley analyst
said significance of the move for Lamborghini and
VW would depend on whether they took the risk of
taking the model dramatically downmarket compared
with current Lamborghinis, thus generating big
volumes. Thousands of London commuters also
read the story in Metro newspaper credited to
Reuters, while The Sunday Times and The Sydney
Morning Herald also picked up the story and
credited it to Reuters. The new model will be key as
