SEC Chairman scares hedge funds at Reuters Summit

SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro rattled the hedge funds industry on April 28 when she said the SEC needed to be able to inspect and examine the funds, as well as further authority to write rules for the industry in an exclusive interview at the Reuters Global Financial Regulation Summit in Washington. Her comments provoked influential hedge fund managers, who asked Reuters for more information and characterized her comments as “scary.”
