Rupert Murdoch broke his silence on the phone-hacking scandal gripping his media empire in exclusive comments to Reuters from Sun Valley on July 9. Every news outlet was trying to get the mogul — attending the annual Allen & Co media summit in Idaho — to talk about his decision to close the News of the World tabloid at the heart of the controversy, and Reuters was the first to succeed.
