Reuters RIM options coverage flags earnings rally

Reuters options coverage on April 1 gave investors a heads-up to a bullish earnings report by Blackberry maker Research in Motion the next day. Reuters first flagged a note by Goldman recommending buying of call options for RIM and then published an article on the RIM options activity. Option investors loaded up on RIM calls, sending RIM shares up 6 pct to $45.69 by late in the day. The next day RIM reported much-better-than-expected results and on April 3 its shares jumped 20 percent to $59.38 on the open.
