UK's M&S shares fall after Reuters reveals mystery stake buyer
08.07.2008
Shares in Marks & Spencer, Britain`s biggest clothing retailer, fell as much as 2.9 percent on Aug 7 after Reuters was way ahead of rivals in identifying the big mystery buyer of the stock. News the Wellcome Trust medical charity had taken a 2.5 percent stake as a long-term investment hit the share price because it punctured earlier speculation of stake-building by a potential predator. The Reuters report, based on a statement from Wellcome, was particularly important since the charity did not formally disclose its holding to the London Stock Exchange. Bloomberg reported its stake nearly 14 minutes later while Dow Jones lagged by an hour.
