Reuters sets the pace again on improvements to U.S.-Cuba relations

Reuters was exclusive from Cuba on Aug 31 with a story quoting Cuba-based diplomats saying talks on resuming direct postal service between the U.S. and Cuba would be held in Havana in mid-September. This is another sign of Obama’s “new beginning” overtures toward Cuba’s communist leaders. Our competitors scrambled to match the story and Dow Jones was forced to quote us. The Miami Herald, which follows Cuba very closely, took several hours to get the story from its own U.S. sources. The exclusive again highlighted our strong sources and expertise in a country where obtaining fresh, original information is notoriously difficult.
