Reuters first with Russian dam disaster

Reuters was first to report on the August 17 disaster at Russia’s largest hydro-power station that killed 10 people immediately and swept away dozens more workers. Reuters stories were quick to put the incident in the context of Russia’s ageing Soviet infrastructure and to hit up the possible impact on power supplies to aluminium smelters. Shares in the dam’s operator RusHydro fell more than 15 percent in London.
