Alone with likely outcome of major emitters meeting on greenhouse gas cuts

Reuters was alone on June 25 in getting hold of a draft document on cutting greenhouse gas emissions that will be discussed by the world’s biggest emitters at a meeting next month. The meeting, to be chaired by U.S. President Barack Obama during a G8 summit on July 8-10, will involve major economies including China. The draft revealed big polluters were considering setting a goal of halving greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and doubling public investment in low carbon technology by 2015. If adopted, this would mark significant progress towards a new UN climate pact in December. Environmental policy impacts energy markets, company share prices and government budget spending.
