Brazil announces change of tack on emissions targets in Reuters interview
03.19.2009
Brazil’s interview on March 19 with Environment Minister Carlos Minc broke new ground ahead of the Copenhagen climate change summit later this year. Minc made an unprecedented call for other developing nations to set their own emissions targets and announced that Brazil would set its own target as an example to others. He also accused China of hiding behind smaller developing nations on emissions cuts and took a swing at Europe for placing more requirements on carbon offsets from developing nations. Developing nations like Brazil had not been expected to set targets as part of the new emissions reduction talks.
