Ahead on reporting Caribbean journey of Hurricane Gustav, moving oil prices
08.27.2009
Reuters was well ahead of all competitors as Hurricane Gustav ripped through the Caribbean from August 27, moving global oil prices as its intensity and path changed on its way into the Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans. Reuters won all the timings and oil prices responded at every turn as the storm steadily gained power, then weakened over Cuba, was upgraded again in the Gulf and finally eased again as it approached the Gulf coast. Our reporters were also ahead as major oil firms evacuated their installations in the Gulf of Mexico, virtually shutting all production in the region that accounts for a quarter of U.S. oil output and 15 percent of its natural gas.
