First to report first concrete US action against Russia
08.12.2008
Reuters was first to report on August 12 that the U.S. had cancelled a naval exercise with Russia and other countries to show its displeasure at Moscow`s military operations in Georgia. The cancellation was the first punitive action taken by Washington as a result of the crisis over South Ossetia, which has raised talk of a new ‘Cold War’ and alarmed energy markets worried about a threat to supplies from the Caspian. Reuters was first to report that Washington was likely to cancel the exercise, due to be hosted by Russia. Early in the evening Reuters received confirmation that the exercise had been canceled. Rival media organizations caught up later in the evening.
