Kenyan FX market calmed on Reuters interview10.22.2008
Market turbulence has hammered the Kenyan shilling. The unit has lost 8.5 percent in value this month, hitting a 4-year low against the U.S. dollar on Oct. 22 — until Reuters delivered an exclusive interview with the central bank governor. Njuguna Ndungu told Reuters on Oct. 22 that market dealers should not to panic and the currency should stabilise. Traders eagerly circulated the story, which hit the screens in the evening, and the market opened calmly the next day, reflecting Ndungu`s comments to Reuters. |
