Reuters ahead with USDA confirming first U.S. case of H1N1 in hogs10.19.2009
Reuters was ahead of Dow Jones and Bloomberg on Oct 19 with news from USDA that a U.S. hog had tested positive for the pandemic H1N1 flu virus for the first time ever. The announcement prompted the hog industry, already hit by product oversupply and bans in place against U.S. pork, to brace for further restrictions by other countries. Still, USDA said the infected hog does not suggest commercial herds are infected because show pigs and commercial herds are separate parts of the swine industry and usually do not mix. |
