Getting the real story on climate talks ahead of our rivals
11.05.2009
Reuters got the real story from Barcelona climate talks, the final round of negotiations before Copenhagen, through thorough reporting that showed we had a real grasp of the subject. On November 5 Reuters reported that negotiators may need 3 months to a year beyond a December deadline to achieve a legally binding deal. Bloomberg was a day late in realising this was the real story. Some British media latched on to a briefing by UK officials and focused on fading hopes for a Copenhagen deal but missed the forward looking element. Reuters was alone in drawing on a wide variety of sources at the Barcelona meeting to give a more precise picture of when investors, closely following the negotiations, can expect binding measures to cut emissions.
