Reuters Way Ahead on Honduras Election11.29.2009
Reuters was ahead of competitors in covering Honduras’ presidential election in the midst of a long political crisis sparked by a June coup. Reuters had exclusive interviews with ousted President Manuel Zelaya and de facto leader Roberto Micheletti in the week leading up to elections, and won all the major news alerts on election night. Reuters was first with exit polls and again when opposition leader Porfirio Lobo was declared the winner by the electoral tribunal. Reuters beat Bloomberg by more than 9 minutes after reporting the ruling party candidate Elvin Santos admitted defeat. |
