First with outcome of international meeting on stabilising Yemen
01.27.2010
Reuters was alone for 8 hours on Jan 27 with the draft of a statement by Yemen, the United States and other allies on fighting al Qaeda and preventing a descent into regional instability. The international meeting in London was called after a failed attempt to blow up an American passenger jet as it approached Detroit. The man behind the attack received training in Yemen, prosecutors say. In the communique, Yemen accepted the need for urgent political and economic reform to stem rising militancy and said it would pursue taks with the IMF. Yemen’s problems have begun to spill over in to neighbouring Saudi Arabia, the world’s top oil exporter, adding urgency to the search for a solution.
