Reuters ahead with U.S. missionaries charged in Haiti

Reuters was way ahead when 10 U.S. missionaries held in Haiti were charged on Feb 4 with child kidnapping and criminal association. Reuters managed to get inside the prosecutor’s hearing, giving us a jump on the charges as well as colour and quotes from inside. AP, the New York Times and CNN all trailed us and referred to the hearing as “closed-door”. We were more than 15 minutes ahead of a New York Times alert and the AP. CNN had been following the story of the missionaries blow-for-blow, but could only refer to “media reports” of the charges and confirmed them an hour later.
