Reuters alone with deal value for huge AIG-Prudential deal
02.27.2010
Reuters was alone on Feb 27 with the deal value for the sale of American International Groups Asian life insurance unit to Britains Prudential. Sources familiar with the situation told Reuters the deal price being discussed was $35.5 billion, $10 billion more than the $25 billion that was being incorrectly reported elsewhere. Later in the day other news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, reported the deal value to be either around or more than $30 billion. Reuters was proved correct the next day when the AIG board approved the transaction, which would help U.S. taxpayers get back billions of bailout funds. Bloomberg was unseen on the story.
