Ahead with Yemen bomb attack on British ambassador
04.26.2010
On April 26 Reuters was seven minutes ahead of its closest competitor with news of a bomb attack on the convoy of Britain’s ambassador to Yemen in Sanaa. Reuters was also first to report, from a security source in Yemen, that the explosion was believed to be the work of a suicide bomber. The suspected al Qaeda attack failed but was a reminder the militant group’s resolve is undented by a recent crackdown. Yemen’s proximity to Saudi Arabia, the world’s biggest oil exporter, has made the West particularly keen to ensure its problems do not destabilise the region. Yemen’s branch of al Qaeda has been linked with attacks in Saudi Arabia and a failed bomb attack late last year on a transatlantic jet bound for Detroit.
