Reuters first with news of Suu Kyi party faction running in Myanmar election
05.07.2010
Reuters clients were first to receive the news on May 7 that a splinter faction of Myanmar’s detained Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party planned to set up their own political party to run in the 2010 elections, in defiance of an official NLD boycott of the widely-dismissed polls. Reuters’ Yangon-based correspondent worked close contacts in the party to get the story, way ahead of other news organizations, on the creation of the National Democratic Force party, all within minutes of the NLD being effectively dissolved for failing to sign up for the election.
