Reuters sets agenda in China autos with Peugeot expansion, Ford/Mazda split

Reuters broke news on May 12 that PSA Peugeot and Chinese partner Dongfeng Motor plan to start building their third China plant this year to produce an additional 200,000 cars a year. The exclusive report, the latest step in foreign automakers ramping up their presence in the world’s largest auto market, was picked up by Bloomberg, as well as the official China Daily, Automotive News Europe and several financial websites. Rivals were forced to quote Reuters again the following day with news that Ford, Mazda and Changan Auto have submitted a plan to the Chinese government to break up the JV and form two separate companies instead.
